Sign Up for IMPACT University’s Pro Comics and Art Workshop
April 9, 2009
Online registration is now open for the new IMPACT University Pro Comics and Art Workshop, a one-day intensive of comics, graphic novel and art educational programming featuring some of the industry’s top names. Sponsored by IMPACT Books, this groundbreaking event takes place Wednesday, July 21, 2009 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel in San Diego, California. IMPACT University is the place for would-be comic writers, illustrators and colorists to learn about breaking into the comic book industry. Seminars, hands-on workshops and portfolio reviews will provide last minute guidance for attendees at the San Diego Comic-Con later that week.
The price for the one day conference is $199. Workshops may be added on for an additional $75 fee each but space is limited. Complete details on Impact University and online registration can be found at www.myimpactuniversity.com.
Hope to see you there!

Seriously, what the heck is going on? Does this site not have any administrator? No “HELP” section? No navigation tools? The banner ad on the home page provides no link — which is what all banner ads are supposed to do! I am obviously not the only person who is trying to register for the workshop and getting nowhere! I received an unsolicited e-mail from your website inviting me to sign up for this workshop. So I took the day off work, made plans, saved up the money, and — nothing!!! I’ve been trying to navigate your site for almost an hour and getting more ticked off by the second. So here’s what we know: there is a workshop that no on can attend, because no one can sign up for, because no one can pay for it, because there is no link — or even a notice anywhere stating that “registration fees” will be taken at the door on a first come, first serve basis…. something, anything?!?! Seriously? No one put any time or thought into how anyone was supposed to attend this workshop, or pay for this workshop? Seriously?!?! No link, no nothing — not even a notice stating if the event was canceled or if the event was sold out! We don’t know anything, because the site provides no explanation or information at all! Hell, is anyone even reading these? The last guy to complain about this was two days ago, and nobody has fixed the problems!!!! Please e-mail me @ kingofcomics@yahoo.com to let me know that your website has fixed these improbable mistake in the system, so that myself and others who were genuinely excited about listening and learning can actually participate in this workshop! I look forward to hearing from someone at Impact University soon. Thank you taking the time to listen to me raging, and understand that if I didn’t care, I wouldn’t complain!

Today is Monday, June 16th, 2009, and I have returned to pay for The San Diego Comic-Con Impact University Workshop and your website is still broken, with all links disabled, and no “Help” menu in sight! Who is the webmaster for this site? I know I can’t be the only person upset about this system failure that no one has noticed or sought to correct…

Hi folks,
Thanks so much for taking the time write us. We’ve had some technical issues on our end, which has prevented me from accessing the site.
I want to thank you so much for your interest in our IMPACT University event. Unfortunately, however, we had to cancel it. I hope you keep coming back to our site and visiting us. We do have some of the technical issues you mentioned worked out, and we continue to work on the others.
All best,
Kelly

I did not find the Impact FCBD (i have them all) this year at my local shops. I found the copy I got at SDCC. I found out about the University then and was disappointed as I could had arranged to make it. I am more disappointed that A.) there was no workshop and B.) you post no real info in the comic. I would hope to find out about such goings on in the future early and hope that they would be factual.

Thanks for stopping by, Spunky and thanks for writing. I love to hear that you’ve got all our FCBD issues. And that stinks that you didn’t find IMPACT University at your local shops this year (we’re sorry!). Local shops themselves decide which comics to carry on FCBD generally. Maybe put in a request for next year!
We couldn’t share your disappointment more about the cancellation of IMPACT University’s Pro Comics and Art Workshop that was to occur at the 2009 SDCC. We advertised for the workshop in our FCBD comic, on most major websites and on our own website for several months prior to SDCC. However, circumstances beyond our control made the cancellation unavoidable. And we agree, that was the most disappointing.
As far as “finding out about such goings on in the future early and hope that they would be factual.” We hope so, too, and don’t intend on anything of the sort happening again. I assure you we did not intentionally advertise for the event and then cancel. And we’re sincerely sorry for any hardship this caused you.
And as for the comic containing no real info, are you referring to info about the cancelled workshop or to the contents of the comic? The comic contains real info and previews of IMPACT’s upcoming books, artists and writers. We’d love to hear what you’d like to see in the comic.
Thanks again for writing.
