Developing Your Fantasy Manga Character Details
One of the fun things about fantasy characters? Accessories! Fantasy characters often have interesting weapons, armor, amulets and giant bags filled with potions and maps.
The most common items in any fantasy manga are a scroll, which can be a letter or important news, and a generic amulet—worn on anything from an enchanted sword, a sorceress book or a nobleman’s cravat.
How to Make a Scroll
Gather your materials: coloring tools of your choice, eraser, paper and a pencil.
1: Draw a spiral shape. Add two curvy parallel lines.
2: Close the shape. Add a small parallel line to the spiral.
3: Add shaded areas and ragged edges to create the look and feel of old paper. Add a seal and ribbon for a royal look. A wax seal usually has a circle with a symbol and a wavy wax edge.
How to Make an Amulet
1: Start with an oval shape. Draw an oval catch-light bubble in the upper left area of the oval. Give the catch-light a shadow edge.
2: Add a gradient color of your choice over the surface. Use curvy lines around the edges of the oval to plan out a frame.
3: Draw the frame. A symmetrical shape for frames works well for fantasy pendants. Add a key chain extension for a realistic look.
