Pokemon Go exploded onto the mobile gaming scene back in July 2016. Now Niantic and Warner Bros. have partnered to create a Harry Potter Go game. What may have started as a joke from the internet is now going to be a reality.
The Harry Potter Go game will be called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.
From Pokemon to Wizards
Along with the official announcement, Warner Bros. and Niantic have set up an official website. Though the site is sparse, you can sign up to get updates as they release.
The new Harry Potter game will use the same technology that Pokemon Go does. The augmented reality technology will reveal magic this time instead of Pokemon. You’ll be able to explore real neighborhoods and cities to discover artifacts, learn to cast spells and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters.
Pokemon Go has had over 750 million downloads since its release. They have released additional waves of Pokemon as well as included some new raid elements with legendary Pokemon. We’re curious to see if the Harry Potter game will be able to match the success. JK Rowling has created an expansive world so there should be a lot to pull from.
Though there isn’t an official release date yet, you can expect to see the game sometime in 2018. We’re thinking that a spring release makes sense when the cold weather breaks and everyone is itching to get outside anyway.
Will you play the new Harry Potter game? I’ll definitely be downloading it!
