SDCC 2016 Wrap Up

SDCC 2016 has come and gone. It was a whirlwind weekend as always. We have the exciting new trailers, some of the exciting cosplay and other news from the convention gathered together here for you! There are so many exciting developments for both the movies and TV shows coming out. I can’t wait to see these.

Batman v Superman had some pretty mixed reviews but the first trailer bringing together the Justice League seems to have an entirely different feel to it. The trailer is surprisingly fun and the characters seem to be able to hold their own even in this short cut of footage. Casting Jason Momoa as Aquaman made it seem like he’d be a tougher character this time around and this trailer confirms it. Aquaman could finally be a real force to be reckoned with!

Wonder Woman was my favorite part of Batman v Superman and I was already excited for her upcoming solo movie. The SDCC trailer makes me even more excited to see her in action. I love that we’re getting the historical aspects thrown in and that we’ll get to see how Wonder Woman truly becomes the character we know and love.

Marvel’s Netflix series coming up also showed footage including trailers for Luke Cage, Iron Fist, the teaser for the Defenders, which reveals their logo, and we got confirmation of a third season for Daredevil.

Doctor Strange got a new trailer and it looks like Marvel is fully embracing the weirdness that will come from Strange’s storyline. I can’t wait to see this one, the visuals look amazing.

Guardians of the Galaxy had a panel and while the footage shown hasn’t hit the internet, we’ve read some of the spoilers from the panel. If you don’t want to know then look away! SPOILER ALERT: James Gunn has confirmed that Kurt Russell will join the cast for their second outing, he’ll play Ego and he will be Star Lord’s dad.

Marvel released even more exciting news and confirmed that Brie Larson has been cast as our future Captain Marvel! She’s been a fan favorite and it’s great to see the confirmation. She’ll knock it out of the park.

There were also some tidbits from Thor Ragnarok including the reveal of the Hulk’s armor pieces, suggesting a gladiator Hulk and possibly storylines pulled from Planet Hulk, and a new logo for the film.

SDCC 2016 definitely brought us a ton of superheroes and I can’t wait to see more of their larger than life stories!

Neil Gaiman’s American Gods is finally coming to life as a Starz original series and while at SDCC 2016 they released the first trailer for the series.

Game of Thrones had a panel of course and while the season is over, they did show a video showing that production on season 7 has started. It’s pretty cool seeing some of the behind the scenes work that goes into the props and sets and costumes to make this grand epic. Game of Thrones will have two more seasons to wrap everything up and season 7 will be shorter than normal with only 7 episodes instead of 10.

We even got a new trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which gives us a much better look at some of the exciting new creatures we’ll see when we return to the wizarding world.

We even got our first official look at the long-awaited season 4 of BBC’s Sherlock! Looks like it could be a rough season for poor Sherlock.

There’s always information overload at SDCC with all the trailers and news being released, but of course who can forget the exciting cosplay! I love seeing the costumes people make. This year some of the celebs really got into it as well. John Barrowman is quite the character himself even without a costume but at the convention he dressed up as Zapp Brannigan, Squirrel Girl and Harley Quinn with the costumes all made by Elhoffer Design, who I’ve been a fan of for a while.
