Manga Monday: Animated Short “The Flight”

I love animation. I think hand-drawn animation in particular is a really impressive art. It takes so long to put together all the images and create a story! I of course love full feature length movies, but there are a lot of really good animated shorts out there. I recently stumbled on one called “The Flight”.

This animated short by artist Inbal Breda is a beautiful animation featuring two friends and a floating city. It reminds me of Hayao Miyazaki‘s Laputa: Castle in the Sky. Both have a gorgeous floating structure that is explored. Both have their characters face a challenge. This animation by Inbal is her graduation film for the Bezalel Academy of Art & Design. I love the character design, the story, the style of it. It’s a wonderfully made film. I think Inbal has a great future ahead! Check out the animated short for yourself.

Inbal also made another animation for her third year:

Personally, I really like the whimsy and fantasy of the first one, but her animation skill and style are definitely impressive in both!

Don’t forget to grab some of our great titles like Dragonart: Fantasy Characters by J “Neondragon” Peffer and Shojo Fashion Manga Art School, Year 2 by Irene Flores and Krisanne McSpadden to help you practice your own art style!
