Manga Monday: Hayao Miyazaki Documentary

I have long been a fan of Hayao Miyazaki and all of his work. Many of his animated films have become my favorite movies. The stories, the music and of course the gorgeous hand drawn animation all come together in a way that is unique to Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. Miyazaki has retired from Studio Ghibli though and this time it seems permanent. Though the anime master himself has said that he will continue making art until he dies. He may not make feature films anymore, but he has said he’s working on a manga again. I will happily take whatever he is willing to give us.

The new documentary about Hayao Miyazaki, The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness, is now available to watch here in the US. It documents a year of Miyazaki’s life and the work at Studio Ghibli.

This clip shows Miyazaki working on animating the final shot for his last film, The Wind Rises.

Check out the trailer:

Seeing the behind the scenes stuff is fascinating. I can’t wait to watch the full documentary.
